Cougars Defeat Talladega 2-1 on Seth Dempsey's Game-Winner in OT

(9/9/11) Clearwater Christian College defeated Talladega College (NAIA) 2-1 on Seth Dempsey's goal in the opening minutes of overtime.

Following a scoreless first half, the Cougars scored first in the 75th minute on freshman Sean Tierney's header off an assist from fellow freshman James Sikes. The Tornadoes answered with only seven minutes left on a goal from Byron Lynum to even the score at 1-1. With three minutes to go in regulation, the Cougars earned a penalty kick but Drew Custer was unable to convert, and the game went into overtime.

Only three minutes into overtime, Drew Custer found himself free in the offensive third and slotted a ball to Seth Dempsey who clinically tucked the ball past the Talladega keeper into the side netting to win the match for the Cougars.

Clearwater led 18-5 in shots on goal, but the Talladega keeper made a number of key saves to keep the Tornadoes in the match. With the win, Clearwater improves to 2-2 on the season and will travel to play Emmanuel College (NAIA) on Saturday at 7 p.m.
