Cougars Drop Season Opener to Florida College

(8/30/11) Clearwater Christian College lost their season opener to Florida College 2-1 in a tough, physical battle marred by rain and delays due to lightning and a power outage.

The match started well for the Cougars as Seth Dempsey put Clearwater on top less than 3 minutes into the match on a counterattack started by a punt from goalkeeper Anthony DeRosse. But the Cougars lead wouldn't last long as the Falcons answered only minutes later on a goal by David Castillo to tie the score at 1-1. The match went back and forth before Castillo scored the game winner 6 minutes into the 2nd half off a rebounded shot. CCC pushed hard in the final minutes to get the game-tying score but came up short.

The Cougars will face Crown College in their home opener on Friday, September 2 at 4pm at Glen Oaks Park.
