Clearwater Wins at Baseball Regionals

(4/29/2011) The highly anticipated elimination game of the Regional Tournament came around with Atlanta Christian beating Toccoa Falls handily in the winner's game. Clearwater came in ready to go, starting freshman lefty Spencer Nunez on the mound in hopes that his continued strong performances would continue and get Clearwater into the championship game. Both teams came out with a run in the 1st inning; the 2nd proved to be a game-changing round as the Cougars batted through the line-up, scoring 6 runs. Contributing to this big inning was Joe Keen, who had a huge 3 RBI double into left field. Casey Nunez also had a double and an RBI single that got the Cougars on top and brought big enough point lead to hold till the end. Spencer went 3+ innings before being relieved by the season's dependable standby, Isaiah Marsh. Marsh finished off the game, allowing no runs for a final score of 7-5 Clearwater.

The Cougars advance to the championship game Saturday to take on the defending regional and national champions, Atlanta Christian.
