Toccoa Takes First Regional Game

(4/28/2011) The first game of the 2011 NCCAA South Regional Tournament went under way in dramatic fashion on Friday as Casey Nunez hit a huge shot over the left-center field wall for his first home run of the year, giving the Cougars an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Toccoa battled back with 2 runs in the bottom of the first as the Eagles continued their hot hitting for a 12-game winning streak, which they continued with Friday's game, winning 3-1.

Clearwater looked to add runs to the positive first inning, but left runners stranded at 3rd base three times as well as three times on 2nd. Pitching got stronger as the game rolled on. Billy Couchenour settled in for a solid start followed up by a very strong relief performance from dependable freshman Isaiah Marsh. The errors and stranded runs proved to be the difference as Toccoa took the first game of the regional tournament.
