Cougars 3-0 in the Region
The Cougars finished the three game road trip with an exciting ending against the regional leaders Atlanta Christian. The Cougars knew Atlanta would be a tough game, and Atlanta didn't disappoint. Coming out strong, Atlanta quickly jumped out with a ten point lead at the half.
The Cougars came out of the half and attacked first, but Atlanta wasn't to be intimidated. Atlanta hit a couple of outside shots giving them a 15 point lead with about 14 minutes left in the game. But the Cougars did not lose heart. The Cougars stepped up their defensive pressure and Atlanta had some key turnovers. The Cougars took advantage of the turnovers and chipped their way back into the game. The Cougars were within 2 points with 1:15 left in the game. Next possession, Atlanta took the ball inside drawing a foul and going to the freethrow line. With 55 seconds left, Atlanta was back up by 4. Katie Mullens drained a three pointer with 30 seconds left, and Cougars were down by one. The Cougars forced a turnover on the next Atlanta possession. With 17 seconds left in the game, a technical foul and successful possession allowed the Cougars to take their first lead of the afternoon. One more defensive stop forced Atlanta to foul again in the attempt to regain possession. With 2.7 seconds, Shelly Bucklin made a free throw to extend the lead to 63-60.
Katie Mullens led the team with 14 points, 5 steals. Shelly Bucklin put in 13 points and pulled down 9 rebounds. Amanda Ison added 12 points and 9 rebounds and Lauren Leabhart put in 10 points. Tiffany Pack and Justina Bechtal added 7 points. The Cougars have a six game win streak bringing them to 6-6. They are 3-0 in the South region.
