Coach Champion holds a B.S. and a M.A. in Physical Education from WMU and enjoys camping, canoeing, biking, golfing, and being with his family. His favorite verse is Psalm 34:8, "O taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who trusteth in Him." Together with his wife, Judy, Coach Champion has over 30 years of experience in Christian education. They have four sons and two daughters, all grown, and recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary.
In addition to regular coaching, Coach Champion has conducted over 65 basketball camps in 16 states, has written a weekly column for a Minnesota newspaper, has appeared as a speaker at numerous school conventions, churches, chapels, and banquets, has been on several athletic mission trips, and remains active in his local church ministry.
Coach Champion has several goals for his Cougar athletic teams: "To turn out athletes from CCC that have a passion to serve the Lord with the talents He has given them; to have the Cougar athletes be role models on campus, at their churches, and in their home communities; to have athletes play with fervor and enthusiasm and to display these same traits in their Christian walks; and, to have players known for their hard work, self-discipline, and testimony. If we take that approach, the wins and losses will take care of themselves." Above all, Coach Champion desires to make a difference in lives for tomorrow. "If we rest on what we accomplished yesterday, we will not be worth anything for the Lord today. It is what we do today with our lives that will impact what we do in future years."
Coach Champion teaches in the ESS Department and is also the interim athletic director. | | Quick Links Home News Recognitions Recruiting Questionnaire Schedules and Scores Season Outlook Season Review Summer Camps Team Coach Team Photos Team Roster Team Statistics
Cougar Spotlight
It has been a joy playing for Coach Champion and this Clearwater Team. I transferred from PCC after my freshman year and am glad I did. Clearwater basketball provides for a great atmosphere to expand your skills, but more importantly, to grow closer to Christ. Coach Champion does a great job with incorporating biblical truths into the game of basketball. more...I came here not knowing if I would play much or how I would establish myself with a new team, but with the small college atmosphere, I fit right into the mold and found out that my basketball team would be some of my closest friends. Basketball is a tool used to point us back to Christ and all that He has done for us. I love the game and give it all, but I also enjoy the spiritual growth that comes with it. I love the team, the fans, and the coaches. I am a privileged cougar athlete. |
