Men's Basketball Season Review (2010-2011)
The 2010-2011 season was a time of progress for the Clearwater Christian Cougars men's basketball team. With 12 new players, it was a year that started out with a lot of teaching and quick learning to get the young Cougars ready for a very tough schedule.
The non-region schedule included NAIA Warner University, Johnson & Wales, Ave Maria, and NCAA DII colleges Flagler, and Georgia Southwestern State. This tough early season schedule helped CCC's men get ready for the NCCAA schedule that followed second semester.
Highlights of the year consisted of big wins over Florida Christian, Atlanta Christian, and Pensacola Christian College. The year was packed with close games that went right down to the last possessions. The Cougars finished the regular season tied for first place in the NCCAA South Region.
Members of the 2010-2011 team were: Bryan Spears, Troy Hadlock, Matt Wells, Todd Wahlberg, Ben Ham, Luke Brigham, Danny Favaro, Russ Aldridge, C.J. Baxter, Erik McRae, Brian Horrach, Dominic Murphy, Jon McLanahan, Colin DeHate, and Devin Paularine.
Commenting on the season, Coach Champion said, "This Cougar team came together as the season progressed and gave the Cougar fans a lot of exciting home games to watch. The team responded by competing in every region game and finishing a surprising 8-2 in the regular season. We were disciplined enough to win a lot of close games second semester and to make a nice run in the region tournament, losing eventually to Atlanta Christian, who went on to the National Tournament. I feel that it was a successful year and I am excited that we will have a large returning nucleus for next year. If we work on the defensive end of the court and get a little stronger, I think we can compete for a region championship in 2011-2012."

Cougar Spotlight
The ability to play basketball at a place like CCC has truly been a blessing to me. After graduating high school, I didn't have a huge passion for the game anymore, though I did want to play during college. After playing my freshman year at a different school, I decided it was God's will to transfer to CCC, not knowing if I would continue to play. more...CCC has a great balance of academics, athletics, and a spiritual emphasis. I have been given many leadership opportunities because I play on this team, and it has helped make my transition to a new school smooth. The athletic atmosphere at CCC makes the long practices worth it. After long pre-seasons, it is easy to struggle with the value of the sport, but after one home game, all those doubts go away. I am so thankful that I was led to CCC. Playing basketball for the Cougars has been an added blessing. |
