LARGO -- (9/3/07) The Clearwater Christian College golf team opened their 2007 season with an exhibition match as they played an alumni team that included representatives from the faculty, staff, and board. Representing the alumni were Kipp Imel (‘99), Corey Williams (’07), CCC staff Dr. Dwight McEntire, Dr. Phil Larsen, Dr. Bob Hodges, Mr. Steve Casarow, Dr. Ray Head, Dr. Dave Burggraff, advisory board member Rev. Billy Gotcher, and local pastor Rev. Andy Burggraff. Freshman David Farrell of Mount Dora, Florida led the Cougar team with a 78, followed by senior Aaron Dahl with an 85. Andy Burggraff led the alumni team with an 80 and Coach McEntire and Dr. Hodges followed close behind with an 83. The CCC golf team will open their regular season next week at the Piedmont Tournament in Atlanta, Georgia.

RUTLEDGE, GA--The Clearwater Christian College golf team headed to Georgia for the Piedmont Invitational Tournament on Monday and Tuesday. The tournament was held at The Creek at Hard Labor State Park. Coach Dwight McEntire said that the team played well on the first day, but they just couldn’t keep the momentum going to the second day. The Cougars ended up ninth out of the ten teams participating. The field was full of skilled players from Darton Community, Reinhardt, Young Harris, Abraham Baldwin Agricultural, Piedmont, Truett-McConnell, and Toccoa Falls. Team captain Josh Manter led the Cougars at the tournament. He shot a 74 on Monday and a 79 on Tuesday. David Farrell followed with an 80 and an 85. The team’s next match will be Friday, September 14, against Warner Southern.

LAKELAND--The Clearwater Christian College golf team headed to Southeastern University’s Invitational Tournament on October 1-2. The Cougars played against a field of NAIA scholarship schools as well as Southeastern and Toccoa Falls. On Monday, under less-than-ideal weather conditions, the Cougars struggled to play well. The team’s total score was a 356. Team captain Josh Manter led the Cougars with an 81, and David Farrell followed with an 89. On Tuesday, the weather was a lot better and so was the Cougars’ play. The team shot a 326. Again, Manter shot a team best 77, and Farrell had a 77. Aaron Dahl was close behind with an 81, and Bryan Royal had an 86. The Cougars finished ahead of Toccoa Falls and just behind Warner Southern’s gold team. This weekend, the golf team’s season will conclude with the NCCAA National Invitational at the Hombre Course in Panama City, Florida.

PANAMA CITY BEACH, FL- The Clearwater Christian College golf team finished first place in the NCCAA Division II National Invitational Golf Tournament. The tournament was played in excellent weather conditions at the Hombre Golf Course in Panama City Beach. Five teams were competing in the tournament including Cincinnati Christian University, Philadelphia Biblical University, Southwestern Christian University, Toccoa Falls College, and Clearwater. Clearwater’s two-day score was 667 resulting in a 42 shot win over Philadelphia Biblical. The Cougars were led by senior Josh Manter, the team captain. His two-day total was 153. Josh was the medalist of the tournament as a result of his steady shot play shooting 77 and 76. Aaron Dahl was second in the individual competition also shooting a 76 on day two. Freshman David Farrell was fourth overall, so the Cougars held three of the top four individual spots. All five of the Clearwater golfers finished in the top 20. For Manter and Dahl, this was their last tournament of their career at Clearwater. They both came through with their best scores. Coach McEntire said, "I look forward to next year’s season already. The Cougars should field a pretty solid team even though they will be losing two of their top players."
