Exercise and Sport Science

Exercise, fitness, and sports -- exciting fields of study to not only learn but to live. The Exercise and Sport Science (ESS) major is a dynamic field where the classroom connects with the weight room, the ESS lab, gymnasium, and athletic fields to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to serve God effectively. Individuals who major in ESS not only care for themselves but find satisfaction in helping others attain or maintain an appropriate level of good health and leisure skills to enjoy effective lives at work, in ministry and at play.

Admissions Requirements

While there are no additional admissions requirements, those enrolling in the Exercise and Sport Science major are expected to maintain a minimum of a C average in their major classes. ESS majors will also require a strong science base, along with a desire to work with individuals in the areas of health, fitness or athletics.

Specialization Options

The basic ESS program has students completing over 45 hours of required and elective ESS courses. Realizing that many students will pursue careers or graduate school in specific professional areas, the College offers the ability to add a specialization area that can easily be incorporated into one’s program by utilizing ESS and general elective requirements. Pre-Physical Therapy

For pursuit of careers and graduate studies in physical therapy

Exercise Science

For pursuit of careers in corporate or private fitness centers and sport medicine clinics and of graduate studies in the areas of exercise physiology and biomechanics.

Sport Management

For pursuit of careers in the athletic, recreational, and fitness segment of the service industry.

Sport Ministry

For pursuit of careers as sport missionaries, directors of church recreational program, Christian camp directors, and sport outreach ministries.

Sport Pedagogy

For pursuit of careers in the area of teaching and coaching.
